PinDrop® as Basecamp: Hike, Bike, Explore Anywhere

The best backcountry adventures don't have to mean leaving all comfort behind. When we set out for Arizona's Aravaipa Wilderness early this summer, the PinDrop® Travel Trailer became basecamp and transformed a challenging backpacking trip into an accessible and comfortable family adventure. PinDrop® proves, yet again, that off-grid doesn't have to mean roughing it.

Backpackers Leaving PinDrop® Basecamp in Search of a Premium Swimming Hole and for an Overnight in the BackCountry

Why a PinDrop Basecamp Matters for Backcountry Access

Aravaipa Canyon is one of Arizona's most pristine wilderness areas, requiring permits and offering zero amenities. The Turkey Creek access point sits miles down rough, unpaved roads where access for most traditional RVs isn't possible. This is exactly where a well-designed, off-grid capable travel trailer like PinDrop® earns its stellar reputation.

For our crew, the PinDrop® basecamp strategy offered the perfect balance. Let's be honest, backpacking can be intimidating. Tackling serious wilderness and having the option to set up a basecamp means you don't have to go fully primitive from day one.

The Perfect Summer Swimming Hole Only Accessed on Foot in the Arizona Back Country

PinDrop® can be strategically planted in a remote campsite near any trailhead. This guarantees access to amenities and the ability to go farther and stay out longer. Imagine returning from a backcountry hiking trip, still hours or even days from civilization with access to a hot shower, nourishing hot food, comfortable sleeps, and a stellar view.

Why return to civilization just yet? This is adventure done right.

True Off-Grid Performance

We all know some of the best summer swimming holes require a bit of a hike. Turkey Creek is a perfect staging area for accessing the Aravaipa Canyon trailhead. The PinDrop® handled the narrow washboard road, steep inclines and water crossings without issue. Near the trailhead parking area, we established a basecamp with views of the creek in under twenty minutes, no hookups required and no generator noise disturbing the wandering wildlife. Yet, we had access to all the standout features PinDrop® is known for that are above and beyond other small trailers on the market.

Award-Winning Brand, Intentional Design

Key features separate PinDrop®, a true off-grid, four-season travel trailer, from other less reliable models. PinDrop's award-winning design assumes you'll be off-grid. Everything is engineered for it.

The 100% solar-powered design, unlike other teardrop style trailers, means access to common conveniences. Interior and exterior lighting helpful for meal prep, reading, and planning day hikes. The eco cool ventilation system, proprietary to PinDrop®, pulls fresh air into the cabin. The chest refrigerator keeps the very best ingredients ready for nourishing meals. Even the surround sound system for a pre-hike playlist can pump everyone up for any adventure.

The 10-Gallon Solar Shower: The Reset Button

The feature that transforms the basecamp experience from good to exceptional is the 10-gallon solar shower mounted on PinDrop's proprietary trestle span roof rack.

Made in-house, the PinDrop® solar shower is highly rated and is a stand-out feature often described as "life-changing". Who doesn't enjoy rinsing off after a few days camping. Filled before departure and warmed by the sun, our hiking crew returned (dusty, tired, and in the same hiking clothes for far too long) to a warm shower waiting at basecamp.

After a backcountry push, a shower is more than comfort. It's a reset. The dust washes away, sore muscles relax, and suddenly everyone feels human again.

The change was immediate. Everyone stops talking about how tired they are and starts talking about where to hike next.

Like many of PinDrop's best features, the solar shower isn't about luxury—it's about extending your adventure. It allows you to stay longer, travel farther, and enjoy remote places without giving up the comforts that make those experiences even better.

Why It Worked

Having a capable basecamp waiting at the trailhead makes all the difference.

PinDrop® provides a comfortable place to prepare before the hike and recover afterward.

With Views Like This, AND A Fully Powered PinDrop®...Why Leave?

That's what great adventure gear should do. Not replace the experience, but make it possible. Sometimes the best way to explore farther into the wilderness is knowing there's a comfortable basecamp waiting when you return.
