In the newest issue, PinDrop® founder Tim Elinski recounts a four-day journey along the legendary El Camino del Diablo, one of the most remote and historic routes in the American Southwest. The article explores the challenges, scenery, and rewards of traveling through this rugged desert landscape while highlighting the importance of self-sufficient, off-grid adventure.

Known as "The Devil's Highway," El Camino del Diablo crosses some of Arizona's most isolated terrain, making it the perfect setting to explore what thoughtful preparation and capable equipment can make possible. Tim's firsthand account captures both the beauty and the respect this historic route demands from modern explorers.
"Our route on our first full day roughly followed the footsteps of a millennia of previous travelers. The Camino was a trading route for the indigenous tribes in the region, from the coast to the interior. Beginning in 1540, Spanish explorers were guided across the desert as they sought an overland route to the California coast. Spaniards relied on this trail in the race to colonize the West Coast. Much later, the 49er’s used the Camino as a southern route to the goldfields, traveling in summer to avoid punishing Apaches. This was the Devil’s heyday, the unfortunate ones died from thirst and exposure, making this trail the deadliest immigrant route in North America."
